Mysore/Mysuru: for fulfilment of their various demands including cancelling of outsourcing system and to make hostel workers as permanent employees among other demands, hostel workers under the banner of Karnataka Rajya Samyukta Vasathi Nilaya Karmikara Sangha staged a protest march in city yesterday.
The protestors, who assembled near Ramaswamy Circle, took out a protest march to the DC Office where they staged a dharna.
They demanded that outsourced workers who were serving since many years be made permanent and continue them till retirement. They also urged that cooks, assistants and watchmen, who are serving in hostels, residential schools and colleges and ashram schools be made as permanent employees and the minimum wages of outsourced workers at hostels be increased to Rs. 35,950 per month, dearness allowance be increased and fix the minimum wages by considering the present cost of living.
Urging to provide legal holidays such as weekly off, national festival holidays etc., the protestors demanded double pay as per the Labour Act when the workers work on holidays besides demanding payment of salaries during lockdown period.
They also demanded receipts of salaries from the labour contract agencies, distribution of ESI cards and provide facilities to the family members of those working in residential schools to stay with them.
Karnataka Rajya Samyukta Vasathi Nilaya Karmikara Sangha District President N. Muddukrishna, District Secretary S. Chandan, Chandrashekar Meti, Yashodhara, Ravichandra, Lokesh, Rajesh, Rani, Mahadevamma, Raju, Shekar, Shivamma, Komala, Lokesh, Lakshamma and others took part in the protest.
