Hotel owners seek extension of business hours till 1 am

Mysuru: The Mysuru Hotel Owners Association has urged the State Government to extend business hours within Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) limits till 1 am, on the lines of Bengaluru.

Association President C. Narayanagowda, accompanied by Karnataka Exhibition Authority Chairman Ayub Khan, met CM D.K. Shivakumar on Oct. 11 and submitted a memorandum seeking an early decision on the long-pending demand.

The Association pointed out that Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, in a report submitted to Police Headquarters on June 5, 2024, had stated that night-time commercial activities within MCC limits could be permitted till 1 am.

The memorandum noted that the State Government had extended business hours till 1 am in 10 Municipal Corporations, including Bengaluru, as announced in the 2024-25 Budget.

The Association said a similar extension should be implemented in city, considering its importance as a tourism destination.

It stated that extending business hours would benefit tourists arriving in the city at night, members of the public and people visiting hospitals, who often need access to food and other essential facilities.

The move would also support the hotel industry, generate employment and increase the Government’s tax revenue. Stating that the Police Commissioner’s report had supported their demand, he urged the Government to direct the Chief Secretary and other officials to issue a notification extending business hours till 1 am within MCC limits.
