Hoteliers hold awareness programme on ‘Tobacco-Free City’

Mysuru: An awareness programme on ‘Tobacco-Free Mysuru City’ was organised jointly by Hotel Owners’ Association and Hotel Owners’ Association Charitable Trust at the Association premises in Krishnamurthypuram on Tuesday.

Inaugurating the programme, District Surveillance Officer Dr. Kusuma observed that tobacco consumption was one of the reasons for increased number of cancer cases.

She contended that hypertension and diabetes were also on the rise possibly owing to the living style of people which was more sedentary.

Hundreds of hotel owners participated in the event which also featured the launch of ‘Cake Mixing’ for Christmas and New Year eve celebrations.

About one tonne of a mixture of dry fruits were mixed to be used for the making of plum cakes for Christmas later.

Tobacco Control Cell District Advisor G. Shiva Kumar and Tobacco Control Programme Co-ordinator Jithin were the chief guests. Association President C. Narayanagowda, Trust President Ravishastri and others were present on the occasion.
