House burgled in broad daylight at Nanjangud

Rs.10 lakh worth gold, cash stolen

Nanjangud: Burglars have decamped with gold jewellery and cash worth about Rs.10 lakh from the house of a contractor in broad daylight at Nanjangud yesterday.

The burglary took place at the house of Krishnamurthy, a contractor at Bageriya Layout here.

It is learnt that yesterday early morning, Krishnamurthy’s wife Asha had left for Mandya to attend a marriage of one of her relatives and Krishnamurthy had gone outside for some work.

The burglars, who came to know that there was no one in the house, gained entry into the house by breaking open the lock at about 9.30 am.

Though they managed to break open the almirah, they were unable to break the locker installed in the wall but bore a hole through the wall and managed to steal 302 grams gold jewels worth Rs.7.55 lakh, 6.5 kg silver articles worth about Rs.2.4 lakh and Rs.50,000 cash.

The theft came to light when the maid who came to the house in the evening, found the door open and informed Krishnamurthy over the phone. Following information, ASP Rudramuni, CPI Gopalakrishna, SI Veerabhadrappa and other officials visited the spot.

Town Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
