70 grams gold jewellery, 2.5 kg silver articles stolen

Mysore/Mysuru: Burglars, who broke into a house in Vijayanagar, have decamped with gold and silver worth lakhs of rupees. The burglary took place at the house of CFTRI Technical Assistant Vanajakshi, at No. 26, A-1 Block, 16th Cross, 1st Main in Vijayanagar 3rd Stage and the incident came to light on May 7 afternoon.

Vanajakshi, along with her husband Srinivas and son had gone to Bengaluru three days before the burglary came to light to attend the wedding of a relative. When they returned on May 7 afternoon, they found the front door forcibly opened and on inspecting the house, they found 70 grams gold jewellery and 2.5 kg silver articles worth lakhs of rupees which was kept in the almirah stolen.

But the burglars have not touched the silver articles kept in the puja room as they (burglars) targeted only the almirah.

Vijayanagar Police Inspector Pradeep and staff, who reached the house, conducted mahazar and registered a case. Vijayanagar ACP Gajendra Prasad, dog squad and fingerprint experts also visited the house.

Meanwhile, Inspector Pradeep said that despite the Police asking the residents to inform them if they are going out of station, a majority of the residents do not inform. If they inform us, we will keep vigil on the house till they return which will prevent such incidents from taking place.

He also suggested the residents to keep the valuables in a secret place as thieves first target almirahs, cupboards and other such places or keep the valuables in bank lockers where they will be safe.
