Mysore/Mysuru: A house help has reportedly burgled cash and gold jewellery from the house of her owner, a senior citizen, in Lashkar Police limits in city.

The theft took place at the house of 80-year-old Syed Rahat Jan, a retired teacher and the accused house help is Fathima, a resident of Kalyangiri in city.

Rahat Jan, who was suffering from age-related illness, had appointed Fathima as a house help for a salary of Rs. 6,000 and had paid Rs. 5,000 as advance to her, it is learnt.

On May 5, Rahat Jan took Fathima to a bank and withdrew Rs. 25,000 cash from the account and also took gold jewellery worth Rs. 5 lakh which was kept in the bank locker.

After returning home, Rahat Jan kept the jewellery and cash in the almirah and kept the almirah keys under her pillow. Fathima knew about the place where Rahat Jan used to keep the keys of the almirah.

From May 2 to 9, Fathima is said to have opened the almirah two to three times and when Rahat Jan questioned Fathima about it, she is said to have told Rahat Jan that she had opened the almirah for cleaning.

Later, when Rahat Jan found the cash and jewellery missing from the almirah, a complaint was immediately lodged at Lashkar Police Station.

Lashkar Police, who have registered a case, are investigating and are on a look out for Fathima, who is absconding.
