Housewife ends life: Parents allege dowry harassment

A 22-year-old housewife reportedly committed suicide by hanging self at her residence in Kurubageri, Lashkar Mohalla here on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Amruta, a native of Adagur village in K.R. Nagar taluk.

Amruta, said to be a distant relative of former MP A.H. Vishwanath, was married to Lohit, a resident of Kurubageri in Lashkar Mohalla one-and-a-half-year ago.

The deceased Amruta’s parents and relatives, accusing Lohit’s family of dowry harassment, gathered in front of Lohit’s residence, which led to tension at the spot for sometime. However, Lohit and his family members had fled from the house before Amruta’s kin could arrive.

Accusing Lohit’s family members of being responsible for Amruta’s death, her relatives demanded that the Police arrest Amruta’s in-laws on charges of murder.

Preventing the Police, who were deployed in large numbers, from shifting the body to MCC&RI, the protesters said that they would not allow shifting of the body until Lohit’s family members return to the house.

But the protesters budged after the Police gave an assurance that action would be taken against the accused. Lashkar Police, who have registered a case of unnatural death in this regard, are investigating.
