Why humps at traffic signal points?

Sir,

I have been observing that Mysuru’s vehicular traffic is on the rise since 10 years. There are several traffic signals which have come up due to increased traffic at different junctions.

Prior to traffic signals at these junctions, there were road humps to control the speed of vehicles. But when a new traffic signal is commissioned, what is the need of these old humps?

Motorists have to first jump these humps and then cross the traffic signals. If the motorists are approaching from a distance and if they see green signal, they come rushing to cross the signal and in the attempt, they can’t apply brakes to slow down at humps, thus facing a dangerous situation. We know that ‘unsafe conditions and unsafe acts are the causes for accidents.’

For example, the traffic signal junction at Speech and Hearing Institute has humps just before the signal from SJCE side as well as from the opposite direction. There are many such junctions with both humps and traffic signals. They pose danger to motorists. I request the Traffic Police to look into this and act to remove unwanted and dangerous road humps at the earliest.
