Hundreds of farmers take out rally in city, seek clarity in farm loan waiver scheme

Mysuru: Seeking fulfilment of their various demands, over 400 farmers under the banner of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) and Hasiru Sene, took out a massive rally in city this morning.

The rally, which commenced from Gun House Circle, passed through Chamaraja Double Road, Ramaswamy Circle, JLB Road, Hotel Metropole Circle and Hunsur Road to reach the DC’s office, where demonstration was held for some time.

The farmers presented a memorandum at the DC’s office, which contained their 22 point charter of demands that included clarity in the State Government’s farm loan waiver scheme, compensation of Rs.10,000 per acre for loss of crops, release of water from KRS and Hemavathi reservoirs for saving standing crops from wilting, extension of job guarantee scheme to farming sector, supply of quality power for at least 10 hours a day, appropriate compensation to land-loser farmers who part with their farmland for formation of residential layouts, inclusion of more crops under Fasal Bima Scheme, filling up of all water bodies in the district, community participation in the Government’s Jalamrutha scheme, expedition of Sakala Yojane, speedy disposal of cases pertaining to cultivation of lands that are before the Akrama-Sakrama Committee and an end to unauthorised sale of liquor in the district, among others.

KRRS office-bearers Hosur Kumar, Hosakote Basavaraju and others led the  demonstration.
