Hundreds take part in trial run for Summer Olympics

Mysuru: Over a thousand children from across five districts of Mysuru region took part in the Mysuru Division trial, ‘Journey for Glory’, a pan India athletic talent scouting event for Summer Olympics 2020 and 2024, organised by National Yuva Co-operative Society Ltd., (NYCS) at Chamundi Vihar Stadium, Nazarbad here this morning.

Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysuru President Swami Athmajnanandaji inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that one should take part in a contest with a competitive spirit.

Highlighting that subjecting oneself to an inner examination, would help him/her to enhance the confidence and performance at competitions, the Swamiji stressed on the need for keeping both the body and mind to be absolutely fit  in order to make a strong impact in the  contest or trials.

He further said that organising such events will help the children to enhance their competitive spirit. The trial was conducted in two categories- 11-14 years and 15-17 years for both boys and girls.

The trial featured 100mts, 200mts, 400mts running race, in which children from Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Hassan and Kodagu districts, took part.

The toppers in today’s contest will become eligible to take part in the State-level selection trial scheduled to be held at Mudabidri on Feb.11.

NYCS State Convenor K. Ramesh, NYCS Mysuru Project Co-ordinator S. Bharath, District Representative B.K. Supreeth, Coach Umesh and others were present.
