Six dacoits arrested, Rs. 72,000 cash, one scooter, one car seized

Mysore/Mysuru: Hunsur Police have arrested six persons on charges of committing dacoity at a house in the town, after tying and gagging the family members on July 26 night and have recovered Rs. 72,000 cash besides seizing one Suzuki Access scooter and a Santro car used for the crime.

Addressing a press meet at his office here yesterday, Superintendent of Police (SP) R. Chethan said that the arrested have been identified as Mohsin Baig of Periyapatna, Imran alias Immu and Mirza Tanveer Baig alias Tannu of Hunsur, Mohammed Afreen of Kushalnagar, M.H. Ashiq Hussain of Mekeri village in Madikeri taluk and Mohammed Azaruddin of Madikeri. All the accused are aged between 30 and 35 years and were taken into custody three days ago, he added.

The SP said that on July 26 at about 7.15 pm, a gang of five dacoits, knocked on the door of Gajala Taranum in the town and when Gajala’s mother opened the door, the gang barged into the house, tied the hands and legs of Gajala, Gajala’s parents, gagged them, assaulted them with a knife and had looted Rs. 6 lakh cash and 500 grams gold ornaments.

Hunsur Police, who had registered a case, had taken up the investigation. A special Police team comprising Hunsur Town Inspector C.V. Ravi, Sub-Inspectors D.K. Lathesh Kumar and Panchakshariswamy and staff was constituted, who conducted an operation and arrested six persons, the SP said and added that the Police have recovered Rs. 72,000 cash besides seizing one Suzuki Access scooter and a Santro car from them.

Among the six arrested persons, accused Mirza Tanveer Baig was involved in the double murder case of students in 2011 at Hunsur and in Thyagaraja Pillai murder case, while another accused Afreen has been involved in Praveen Poojary murder case at Kushalnagar,          the SP said.

Hunsur Town Inspector C.V. Ravi, SIs D.K. Lathesh Kumar and Panchakshariswamy and staff Prabhakar, Puttanayaka, Srinivas Prasad, Irfan, Shekar, H.S. Bharatesh, Rajegowda, Kumar, Lathif and Aleem took part in the nabbing operation.
