Mysuru: The work on the installation of 17 magic boxes on the Hunsur Road stretch between Paduvarahalli and Kukkarahalli is complete and the road, which was closed for nearly two months opened to the traffic again from yesterday (Dec.24).
At a simple function organised here yesterday, Mayor M.J. Ravikumar opened the stretch for traffic by waving a green flag in the presence of Corporation officials.
Due to heavy rains that lashed the city two months ago, water had entered many houses in Srirampura, Surya Extension, Kanakagiri and Paduvarahalli and the residents were subjected to a lot of miseries.
Chief Minister Siddharamaiah who visited the city during that time to attend a few functions had visited Paduvarahalli and assured the residents of a permanent solution to their problems.
MLA Vasu had promised the residents that the rainwater would be directed to Kukkarahalli Lake thus preventing the water from entering the houses.
He had launched the work of installation of magic boxes on Oct.15. The Mysuru City Corporation installed the pre-cast magic boxes on the stretch thus enabling the free flow of water into the lake.
The work was completed in two months time and is now open to the traffic. The vehicles have started plying on this stretch from yesterday.
