- One accused arrested in Odisha’s Cuttack
Mysore/Mysuru: The Hunsur Rural Police have detained two individuals in Mumbai linked to an inter-State narcotics racket following a major seizure of contraband worth crores of rupees from a farmhouse near Hunsur recently.
Confirming the development to Star of Mysore this morning, Mysuru Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baladandi said, the detained suspects have not yet been formally arrested.
“We are interrogating them to establish the drug production and distribution network. The mastermind behind the racket has been identified and is absconding in Mumbai. Our team has obtained definite clues and is searching for him there,” he said, expressing confidence that the key accused would be arrested soon.
The operation has exposed a wider inter-State drug trafficking network with links spanning Karnataka, Maharashtra and Odisha. The synthetic drug racket was busted at a farmhouse located between Rathnapuri and Dasanapura villages in Hunsur taluk on Mar. 27.
During the raid, Police seized 7.35-kg of Mephedrone and 41-kg of drug precursor chemicals, collectively valued at about Rs. 12 crore. Initially, Police arrested two suspects, Mohammad Irfan (30), a resident of Siddique Mohalla in Mysuru and Mohammad Irfan (42), a resident of Rehmat Mohalla in Hunsur, who owned the farmhouse and the surrounding land.
During interrogation, investigators examined their SIM cards and discovered links to contacts in Mumbai and Cuttack in Odisha. The suspects reportedly admitted that their narcotics network extended to Odisha. Acting on these leads, a five-member Police team travelled to Mumbai and Odisha. With the assistance of the Mumbai Police, two suspects were detained in Mumbai and are currently being grilled. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Mysuru Police, with the help of Odisha Police, have arrested Raja Sahani, who is suspected to be involved in the drug trafficking network. He was produced before a local Court in Odisha & is being brought to Mysuru for further investigation.
