Hunt for a good meal…

A snake is intensely sensing the world around it through its forked tongue, looking for its prey.

This photograph of Sri Lankan Cat Snake or Ceylon Cat Snake was clicked at the forest near Bittangala near Virajpet in Kodagu by Dr. C. Bishan Monnappa, an Orthopaedic Surgeon.

This snake (scientific name Boiga Ceylonensis) is nocturnal and a mildly venomous one, found in the Western Ghats and Sri Lanka. It lives in evergreen forests, aggressive in behaviour and does not hesitate in striking if it senses danger.

The photograph has been posted in India Nature Watch Forum. Dr. Bishan, apart from being an avid photographer, is a nature and music enthusiast. For the record, World Snake Day was observed on Monday, July 16.
