‘I am delighted with the response for Raashtriya Rangotsava’

March 17, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that the ongoing Bahuroopi National Theatre Festival with the theme ‘Motherhood’ is getting tremendous response from the general public, Addanda C. Cariappa, Director of Mysuru Rangayana which is hosting the 10-day event, said that he is delighted with the response.

Sharing his happiness with Star of Mysore, Cariappa said that this year’s Bahuroopi Theatre Fest having the theme ‘Motherhood’ has a variety of programmes, focussing on folklore and arts, apart from staging of plays in different languages.

Expressing concern over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the loss of life and destruction of properties, Cariappa said that he was deeply pained upon going through reports on the war. Asserting that Rangayana has extended hospitality to all participants, he said that he felt heartened to hear a majority of artistes telling that they never experienced such a hospitality anywhere before.

Contending that he is treating Rangayana artistes, all of whom are younger to him and Rangashaale students as members of his own family, the Rangayana Director said that these artistes were committed to taking care of the participants who have come from different parts of the country.

Asserting that Shivamogga, Kalaburagi and Dharwad Rangayana theatre repertories are getting their due in the Festival, he said that for the first time, admission has been made free for  three plays being staged at Kalamandira from Mar. 16 to 18 at 7 pm in order to promote mythological plays and appealed people to watch the play in large numbers.

While the play ‘Rama Ravana Yuddha’ (Kannada) was staged by artistes of Kalaburagi Rangayana at Kalamandira last evening, Kannada play ‘Veera Viragi Bahubali’ will be performed by Gramaranga troupe from Ingalagi today (Mar. 17) and play ‘Sri Krishna Rayabhara’ (Kannada) will be staged by Rangarathnakara troupe from Mysuru tomorrow (Mar. 18) at 7 pm.
