ICC Women’s World Cup: India storm into semifinals crush New Zealand by 186 runs

Skipper Mithali Raj slammed a century before left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad returned with a five-wicket haul as India crushed New Zealand by 186 runs to storm into the semifinals of the ICC Women’s World Cup yesterday.

After being put in to bat, India scored 265/7 in their 50 overs. Mithali Raj slammed her sixth hundred and shared solid partnerships with Harmanpreet Kaur and Veda Krishnamurthy, who scored fifties, as India scored a strong total against New Zealand. The Indian women’s cricket team, led by Mithali Raj, needed to win against New Zealand for the last semi-final spot and they did after bowling out New Zealand for 79 in 25.3 overs.

Left-arm orthodox bowler Rajeshwari Gayakwad was named ‘Player of the Match’ for picking up five wickets.
