‘Ignorance of law deprives people of their basic rights’

Mysuru: Mahajana Law College of Mahajana Education Society (MES), in association with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), commemorating National Legal Services Day and Constitution Day, had organised a legal awareness programme at the College premises in Jayalakshmipuram here this morning.

Inaugurating the programme Second Additional Principal Judge, Family Court N.S. Patil opined that legal awareness was necessary and important for all. He contended that people abide by certain rules and regulations but could be unaware of the legal reasoning behind such rules.

Speaking on the occasion, DLSA Member Secretary B.P. Devamane observed that too many cases were putting pressure on Courts. He contended that DLSA comes in the way to ease the pressure on Court to some extent. He said that ignorance of law was responsible to deprive a person of basic rights. He bemoaned that sometimes social media distorts or mislead on facts making the so-called intelligent too to misconstrue.

Mysore Bar Association Secretary Shivanna briefed on the intricate features of DLSA.

MES President Muralidhar Bhagavath presided. Mysore Bar Association President S. Anand Kumar, Legal Expert Dr. C.K.N. Raja, MES Administrative Officer P. Sarojamma, College Principal Dr. Sanjith and others were present.
