Illegal fishing at Ranganatittu: One among seven persons arrested

Boatman injured in the operation

Srirangapatna: The Forest Department boat patrolling team, which intercepted a boat with seven persons who had illegally entered Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary last night, have managed to arrest one of them.

The arrested person has been identified as Jaffer.

Meanwhile, Muruga, the boatman of patrolling team, was injured during the nabbing operation as one of the accused attacked him with a knife before fleeing. He was rushed to a hospital where the doctors have stitched the wound and he is now recovering. The Forest personnel have seized three bikes and an autorickshaw in which the accused had come.

The accused has been booked under various Sections of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and was produced before the Srirangapatna Court.

RFO Ananya Kumar, Dy. RFO Puttemade Gowda and staff took part in the nabbing operation.
