Illegal resort at Talacauvery: DC suspends Revenue Inspector

Madikeri: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anees Kanmani Joy has issued an order suspending Revenue Inspector at Madikeri Tahsildar Office, J.T. Satish, with regard to the illegal construction of a resort by demolishing a hill near Talacuvery coming under Bhagamandala Gram Panchayat limits.

It is alleged that for the construction of the resort in Kolikadu and Cherangala village limits, nearly 1.5 acre hill was encroached and the forest area was destroyed besides a large quantity of mud was excavated resulting in cracks being developed at the spot. Following the development of cracks on the hill, villagers of Kolikadu residing at the foot of the hill were living in a sense of fear.

Meanwhile, the members of Talacauvery Moolaswaroopa Rakshana Vedike had lodged a complaint with the District Administration and also to the Forest Department following which the DC initiated a joint investigation involving Revenue, Forest, Mines and Geology Departments.

During the survey, it came to be known that the land allotted was different from the land on which the resort was being constructed and it also came to light that the land acquired for the construction was a Government land and not forest land.

As a large number of trees were axed, the Forest Department has registered a case against the Revenue Inspector.
