IMF Economist Gita Gopinath to visit city tomorrow

Mysuru:  Economic Counsellor and Director of Research Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Gita Gopinath will be arriving in Mysuru on a three-day visit tomorrow.

Gita’s parents T.V. Gopinath and V.C. Vijayalakshmi, both from Kerala, currently reside in Mysuru.

Mysuru-born Gita Gopinath, the first woman to occupy the top IMF post, is on India tour since Dec.18 and has been attending the events related to economics and commerce including the 92nd Annual Convention of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) where she gave a special address on the theme ‘India: Roadmap to a $5 Trillion Economy’ on Dec.20.

Gita Gopinath also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has posted pictures of Prime Minister Modi with Gita Gopinath on its Twitter handle.
