Increase voting percentage through SVEEP activities: ZP CEO

Mysore/Mysuru: Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and District SVEEP Nodal Officer K.M. Gayathri has given a call to increase the percentage of voting by organising Systematic Voters Enrolment and Education Programme (SVEEP) activities in a unique manner at all Gram Panchayat (GP) limits to create awareness among voters.

She was speaking at a signature collection campaign organised by Mysuru Taluk SVEEP Committee at Taluk Administrative Soudha premises in city yesterday, as part of SVEEP activities organised in view of Lok Sabha elections.

“The general public in rural areas should be made aware to take part in voting on Apr. 26. The SVEEP activities should be conducted to sensitise them about the significance of voting,” said Gayathri in her instructions to Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) of all the GPs.

The polling booths in GP limits should be provided basic infrastructural facilities without compromising on quality. The PDOs should discuss with Polling Station Officers and supply the required materials on time.

Inspections should be conducted at the Polling Stations to provide basic amenities like well equipped toilet, drinking water, shelter, first-aid box and other facilities, along with rest rooms.

Everybody should download cVIGIL App and in case of any election related irregularities, the complaint should be registered through the App. Training camp should be conducted to create awareness among first time voters and volunteers should be appointed for the assistance of senior citizens. Overall, there should be no scope for any lapses and the duties should be handled in a best manner by discussing among themselves, Gayathri told the officers.

Apart from election related preparations, drought has hit many villages. Hence measures should be taken to provide adequate drinking water and create more jobs under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to stop migration of people. More works related to management of natural resources should be taken up, she instructed.

Assistant SVEEP Nodal Officer M. Shantha, Executive Officer of Mysuru Taluk Panchayat S.P. Dharanesh, Assistant Directors Bhavya and Gangadhar, staff of TP and Taluk Office, PDOs, Secretaries, SDAs and DEOs of all GPs were present.
