Mumbai: The ongoing political tension between India and Bangladesh has hit Indian Premier League (IPL) with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) this morning instructing the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their team for the upcoming 2026 IPL edition.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia informed media persons in Guwahati that due to ongoing developments BCCI has instructed KKR franchise to release Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh from their squad.
He also confirmed that KKR would be allowed to sign a replacement player once Rahman is removed from the squad.
It may be recalled that Mustafizur Rahman was bought by KKR for a price of Rs. 9.2 crore, from a base price of Rs. 2 crore during IPL auction held at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, during December last year. It may be noted that both KKR and its co-owner Shah Rukh Khan faced criticism for picking Mustafizur Rahman despite ongoing tensions between India and Bangladesh. The controversy emerged after a series of violent incidents targeting members of the Hindu community occurred in Bangladesh forcing various organisations to raise their objection for selecting Bangla pacer.
