All-India Inter-University Men’s Kho-Kho Championship 2017-18: Host UoM to take over Pune Varsity in finals

University of Mysore (UoM)  will take over Savitribai Phule Pune University in the finals of the All-India Inter-University Men’s Kho-Kho Championship 2017-18, conducted by UoM, at the University Grounds this afternoon.

While UoM beat Mangalore University (15-9, by 6 points), Savitribai Phule Pune University beat Shivaji University, Kolhapur (20-17, by 3 points) in the semi-finals played this morning, to enter the finals.

The finals will be played at 3.30 pm today and it will be followed by prize distribution function. The prizes to the winners will be given by Prof. C. Basavaraju, in-Charge Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore.

On the penultimate day yesterday, last year’s third-pace winner Shivaji University, Kolhapur and this year’s South Zone Champion and host, University of Mysore registered upset wins over defending champion SRTNU Nanded (14-13, by one point) and last year’s runners-up University of Mumbai (17-15, by 2 points & 4m.30s to spare) and entered the semi-finals.

Savitribai Phule Pune University and Mangalore University also entered the semifinals by registering good wins over Davangere University and University of Calicut respectively.

Results: Quarter-finals — Shivaji University, Kolhapur: 14 (Potdae Sagar 3min.40s & 4 points, Jadav Nilesh 2 min) bt SRTMU – Nanded: 13 (Suresh Shammand 2min.30s & 4 points, Diyesh Suresh 4 points) (by one point).

University of Mysore: 17 (H.R. Manu 3min and 4 points, Kirshna 2min 40s & B.R. Bharath 3 points) bt University of Mumbai: 15 (Mahesh Madar Shinde 2min 30s & 1 point) (by 2 points & 4min.30s to spare).

Mangalore University: 14 (Dhanush 3 min, Vijay Pande  1min.20s & 2 points) bt University of Calicut: 12 (M. Mahesh 2min 30s & 1 point) by 2 points and 3min 50s to spare.

Savitribai Phule Pune University: 19 (Gargate Sayesh 1 min & 4 points, Kade Akash 2 min & 5 points) bt Davangere University: 14 (S. Nagaraja 2min 30s & 3 points) by 5 points.
