India-West Indies ODI Series: First ODI abandoned due to rain

Guyana: The first match of the three ODI match series between India and Windies was abandoned due to rain here at the Providence Stadium yesterday. Earlier, Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to field first after a delayed start due to wet outfield.

The second interruption after the match started after the 13th over with West Indies reaching 54 for 1 with Evin Lewis (40 not out) and Shai Hope (6 not out) at the crease. Meanwhile, the outfield kept deteriorating with damp patches forming on the ground due to continuous drizzling. The ground staff covered them with sawdust but it didn’t help much.

After enough hide-n-seek between rain and the sun, the umpires and officials finally decided to call off the match without a result. The two teams will now move to Port of Spain for the second match of the three-ODI series which will be played on Aug. 11.
