India wins second Test

New Delhi: India won the second Cricket Test against Australia at Delhi, beating the Aussies comprehensively by six wickets in the post-lunch session on the third day of the Test today.

Needing 115 for victory after Aussies were bowled out for 113 in the second Innings earlier this morning, India set out their task in right earnest and clinched victory with more than two days to spare. India’s ace batter Cheteshwar Pujara, who is playing his 100th Test match, scored the winning runs for India by hitting a boundary of Aussie spinner Todd Murphy, thus making the Test a memorable one for him. Earlier in the day, Australia, who resumed their second innings at 61/1, collapsed dramatically as the day progressed, with left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja playing havoc, scalping seven wickets for 42 runs, while fellow spinner R. Ashwin bagged three.

With this victory, hosts India have gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the Border-Gavaskar 4-Test Series, with two Tests still to go.

Brief Scores: Australia 263 & 113. India 262 &118/4.
