Indian Academy of Paediatrics conducts CME at Sigma Hospital

Mysore/Mysuru: Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), Mysuru, conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme by internationally renowned faculty Dr. Satyan Lakshminrusimha at Sigma Hospital in city on Nov. 24.

He discussed with the Paedia-tricians about the scientific basis for Neonatal Resuscitation and explained the evidence behind the critical steps of this procedure.

A Mysurean, Dr. Satyan is currently the Professor and Chair of Paediatrics, University of California Davis (UCD), Sacramento, California, USA. His primary focus is how foetal lungs change at birth to breathe air and disorders of transition, specifically asphyxia and Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN). He is funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH) to evaluate optimal oxygenation in neonatal lung injury and PPHN.

He is the Principal Investigator (PI) of multicentre trial evaluating milrinone in congenital diaphra-gmatic hernia and co-editor of the textbook, “Essentials of Neonatal Ventilation” by Elsevier;  member of American Academy of Paediatrics – Neonatal Resuscitation Programme Steering Committee and the Sub-board of Neonatal Perinatal Medicine of the American Board of Paediatrics.

He was recently appointed as Chair of Association of Medical Schools – Paediatric Department Chairs’ Clinical Care Committee  which strives to share best practices and approaches to new challenges to promote access to high quality care for all children.

Dr. Satyan enjoys drawing medical illustrations and has published more than 280 peer-reviewed articles and 500 illustrations in Paediatric and Neonatology textbooks, journal articles and apps.
