Indian Navy soldier from Belagavi dies after gun misfires

Belagavi: An Indian Navy soldier from the district died while on duty at Chennai after his service weapon allegedly misfired yesterday.

The deceased is Praveen Subhash Khangoudar (24), son of Subhash and Mahadevi couple and a native of Kallolli in Mudalagi taluk. Praveen had joined the Indian Navy in February 2020.

After serving in Kochi and Andaman, he was recently transferred to Chennai. According to family sources, an hour before the unfortunate incident, Praveen had spoken to his parents and a brother on phone.

An hour later, a Navy officer informed his family that he (Praveen) died after his service weapon misfired and a bullet pierced his head.

The mortal remains will be brought to Kallolli today and taken in a procession to Ramalingeshwara Educational Institution premises where it will be kept for public to pay the last respects.

Last rites will be held with State honours later in the day.
