Indian Sociological Society to present Lifetime Achievement Award to Prof. R. Indira

Mysore/Mysuru: Prof. R. Indira, formerly Professor of Sociology and currently Visiting Professor, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair, University of Mysore, has been conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Sociological Society.

This coveted award honours Indian sociologists who have made outstanding contributions in the field of Sociology.

The award will be presented to Prof. Indira at the 47th All India Sociological Conference to be held at Meghalaya in December.

In her 50-year professional journey, Prof. Indira has served the University of Mysore for 42 years as a teacher of Sociology, Chairperson of the Department of Sociology and Director of International Centre and Centre for Women’s Studies.

She is a two-time Fulbright and four-time Shastri Fellow and a Visiting Faculty at many prestigious Indian and International Universities. She has served the Indian Sociological Society as its President and Secretary and the Karnataka Sociology Association as its President.

Prof. Indira’s books, articles, research reports, subject-based glossaries and video lecture                 series are significant contributions to Sociology.

Through her columns published in leading Kannada newspapers including Mysuru Mithra (sister publication of Star of Mysore), Prof. Indira is credited with bringing issues of sociological concern to the public domain. As President of Samruddhi Foundation, she has been constantly working for building academic capacities of students and younger faculty, according to a press release from G. Shanthi, Secretary, Samruddhi Foundation.
