Bengaluru: Transport Minister H.M. Revanna has said that the State Government’s Indira Canteens will be set up in KSRTC bus stations too.
Addressing a press meet at the KSRTC Head Office here on Monday, Revanna said that the space will be given in KSRTC bus stands for setting up Indira Canteens.
However, at the same time the Department will ensure that the existing KSRTC Canteens are not affected by Indira Canteens, he said and added that Indira Canteens will be set up based on demand.
Continuing, the Minister said that digital boards will be installed in bus stations to provide information to commuters.
Declaring that drinking water units will be established at all bus stands across the State, he said that necessary measures will be taken to maintain hygiene at bus stand toilets. Explaining KSRTC’s extension plans, the Minister said that six new bus depots will be built and 21 bus stands will be upgraded.
Transport hub: Pointing out that Mangaluru will be made a transport hub, Revanna said that the KSRTC is working on bringing a paperless ticket system.
On pillion riders: Referring to reports on not allowing pillion riders in 100cc motorcycles, Revanna said that the Transport Department was only following a High Court directive and there was no Government interference in the issue.
Sulabh Souchalaya: Declaring that the KSRTC plans to entrust the maintenance of bus stand toilets to Sulabh Souchalaya in the wake of numerous complaints on mismanagement, the Minister said that the toilets in Bengaluru Central Division, Ramanagar and Mandya bus stands will be handed over to Sulabh Souchalaya and the toilet maintenance in other 151 bus stations too will soon be handed over in phases.
However, a final decision in this regard will be taken at a KSRTC meeting in a couple of days, he added.
