Inevitable to learn karate for self-defence: UoM Vice-Chancellor

Mysore/Mysuru: Marking World Karate Day, over 500 Karate enthusiasts presented a demonstration and displayed their Karate skills at ‘Karate for Self Defence’ programme, organised by Mysore Karate Association in association with the University of Mysore’s Department of Physical Education and the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports at the Sports Pavilion in Maharaja’s College Grounds in city this morning.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme, University of Mysore (UoM) Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar said that it has become inevitable to learn Karate for ones protection and added that it is laudable that many children were leaning this self defence art form in their school itself.  Karate also brings discipline in life, he added.

SP R. Chethan, International Karate Master and Mysore Karate Association Hon. President Cheppudira Arun Machaiah, UoM Physical Education Department Director Dr. P. Krishnaiah, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports Assistant Director K. Suresh, Association President Sensei V. Nagaraj, Secretary Sensei M. Sosale Siddaraju and others were present.
