Mysuru: The city of palaces, gardens, culture, tradition and with many firsts to its credit is once again on the international map. The driverless golf cart built at the engineering division in the Infosys campus in Mysuru, is the reason for this exuberance.
Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka arrived at the company’s Bengaluru headquarters in a driverless golf cart, built by the firm’s engineers with support from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, to announce the quarterly results yesterday (July 14).
Infosys was always known for its services than products was the criticism raised against the company when it began its operations in the 1990s. It has come a long way since then and with the CEO Sikka focusing more on new areas than on older ones; the company is taking forward Sikka’s ideology of automation.
The IT giants world over are taking the automation route combined with artificial intelligence and other new technologies and this is where the IT bellwether is also heading. “An autonomous vehicle for me & Pravin, built right in Mysore @Infosys Engg Services! Who says we can’t build transformative technologies?” tweeted Sikka yesterday.
Meanwhile, with mass layoffs in many of India’s IT software giant companies, the techies are heading to the Labour Department to file petitions before the Commissioner, seeking legal redressal. However, Infosys has denied any massive layoffs and said that because of the automation many workers were awaiting to be reskilled or reassigned.
