December 14, 2018

To focus on Kodagu rehabilitation measures, education, health of women and children

International Inner Wheel is women’s largest NGO doing voluntary service across the world. Spread over 105 countries, 177 districts with more than 1,20,000 members in 4,000 clubs, it  has representation in the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNESCO).

Oliver Margarette Golding, a nurse, business woman and wife of Manchester Rotarian, started Inner Wheel Movement in 1924. Its objectives are:

  1. To promote true friendship
  2. To encourage ideals of personal service
  3. To foster international understanding

Any woman who has passion for friendship and service can join the organisation. Members achieve these aims through Club events. Personal service is top priority and members find many ways to carry out projects in their local community.

Every three years, there is an International Inner Wheel  (IIW) Convention organised by hosting Country Committee and IIW Governing Body where changes to the constitution are discussed and voted upon by the members. International Inner Wheel 2018-19  President is Christine Kirby of Australia, who has given the theme for the year as ‘Women Empowerment and Evolve.’

Smitha Pingale from Pune, who is the President of Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India 2018-19, has called for deeper and wider growth of Inner Wheel in India. Association’s Triennial Conference is held once in three years where debate on bye-laws with discussion of proposals and amendments to bring modifications will be voted by members. This year it will be held in Pune from                 Feb. 8 to Feb.10, 2019.

District 318 is one of the 27  districts of Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India, which has 43 Clubs covering 8 revenue districts of Karnataka namely, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagalur, Shivamogga, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
