Intensified social media vigil to curb misinformation

Mysore/Mysuru:  To curb misinformation and safeguard public safety during Dasara, the Mysuru City Police have ramped up their digital vigilance by strengthening their Social Media Monitoring Cell with additional manpower.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar announced that 52 officers will be deployed to monitor social media platforms round-the-clock.

Their primary mandate is to detect and take swift action against the circulation of fake news, misleading content and provocative posts that could disturb public harmony or disrupt the festive spirit.

Issuing a stern warning, Commissioner Latkar cautioned against uploading outdated videos or reels aimed at inciting fear or spreading negativity. “Social media posting must be responsible,” she stressed, urging citizens to refrain from engaging in any activity that could mislead the public or tarnish the celebratory atmosphere of Dasara.
