The three-day University of Mysore (UoM) Inter-Collegiate Hockey tournament for women, hosted jointly by the UoM Physical Education Department and Government Degree College for Women, Hunsur, began at the Hockey grounds here on Thursday.
Senior Journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar, who inaugurated the tournament, said that Hockey is the national sport of the country and Hockey legend P. Dhyanchand has made the country proud through his scintillating display on the hockey ground.
Pointing out that Karnataka’s Kodagu district has made a big contribution for the sport, he said that the country has excelled in both men and women categories in international events, including Olympics. UoM Physical Education Department Director Dr. C. Venkatesh, Deputy Director Dr. P. Krishnaiah, Hockey coach Ashok Y. Thippasundar, Journalist Dharmapura Narayan, Hunsur Government Degree College for Women Principal Puttashetty, Physical Education Director Dr. K.S. Bhaskar, staff Karunakar and Kumar, Mahajana College Physical Education Director Bhaskar, UoM Post-Graduate Physical Education Academic Council Assistant Director Ravi, Yuvaraja’s College retired Principal Prof. M. Rudraiah and others were present.
