Interaction with Achievers: Mysore Art Gallery felicitates danseuse Srilakshmi Kumar

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysore Art Gallery had organised its monthly ‘Interaction with Achievers’ programme at the Gallery premises on Ramanuja Road here recently.

T.S. Srilakshmi Kumar, who participated in the event, shared her thoughts, experiences and achievements as a dancer. An established dancer of Mysuru, Srilakshmi Kumar is the daughter and disciple of Kalashree late T.N. Somashekhar. Danseuse Srilakshmi Kumar was later felicitated on the occasion.  

Speaking after felicitating the artiste, writer Bannur K. Raju bemoaned that learning Indian classical dance has now become a prestige issue for a few rich families. “People have started to spend lakhs of rupees for Rangapravesha (Arangetram). It has become a matter of pride and prestige for many rich families. Srilakshmi Kumar really stands apart in this regard. She has been training talented students and creating awareness about the rich tradition of Indian classical dance in a true sense. Indian classical dance forms such as Bharatanatyam is nothing but a cultured, highly skilled and beautiful medium to express devotion.”

Mysore Art Gallery President L. Shivalingappa, Secretary Dr. Jamunarani Mirle, Convenor Srikantamurthy, art critic Rama V. Bennur and others were present.
