Mysuru: ‘Punarjanma,’ an interactive session on kidney diseases and treatment options was held under the aegis of city’s Apollo BGS Hospitals at Ganabharathi (Veene Seshanna Bhavan) on Adichunchanagiri Road in Kuvempunagar here yesterday.
About 250 registered kidney patients attended the programme, which was open to all those suffering from various kidney ailments, those undergoing kidney dialysis, for people who wanted to know treatment options and to those who would want to learn about keeping kidneys healthy.
Speaking at the programme, Apollo BGS Hospitals Vice-President (Operations and Unit Head) N.G. Bharateesh Reddy said that Apollo Hospital has been making efforts to sensitise the public on kidney problems and keeping kidneys healthy through awareness programmes.
Pointing out that 23 kidney transplant operations were conducted successfully at the hospital in the past year, Reddy appealed the public to break the myths surrounding organ donation.
Apollo Hospital Nephrologist Dr. Praveen Chandrashekar gave comprehensive information on specific types of kidney diseases such as Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and tips on protecting kidney health.
A power-point presentation on the functioning of kidneys, causes of kidney failure, recognition of symptoms, tests for kidney health and such other kidney related-issues was held. Past patients, kidney donors and recipients shared their experience on post-operational health.
Senior consultant of Nephrology Dr. Srinivas Nalloor and others were present.
