Mysuru: A two-day International Conference on ‘Environment, Health and Policy Nexus-2017,’ organised by the Department of Water & Health and Health System Management Studies of JSS University, commenced this morning at JSS Medical College premises here.
About 100 environmental Science researchers and consultants from across the country, Iran, Malaysia, Africa and other countries are participating in the conference to network and share knowledge on latest development in environment, health and policy issues and also to create an awareness among public and private stake holders to maintain a better environment for livelihood and sustainability.
The Conference features several technical sessions.
JSS Mahavidyapeetha Secretary S.P. Manjunath inaugurated the Conference.
Speaking as the Chief Guest, Dr. David Jenkins, Professor, Plymouth University, United Kingdom, observed that India was a rapidly growing nation thus triggering a water scarcity. He opined that perennial water row between States should be resolved by the Government. He added that the ground water level too had dipped substantially and conservation of water was of top priority now.
Dr. T.V. Ramachandra, Director, Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, delivered the keynote address. JSS University Registrar Dr. B. Manjunath, Director (Academic) Dr. P.A. Kushalappa, Director (Research) Dr. S. Balasubramanyam and others were present during the inauguration.
