Mysuru: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) had recently organised a discussion on ‘creating an equitable and strife-free workplace’. The event was organised at Country Inn & Suites where several trade and industry union leaders participated.
CII Chairman Arjun Ranga said that every industry has to be strife-free and everyone deserves a happy workplace. Regretting that Mysuru lost its chance of being a Smart City, he said, “that was unfortunate. We need to realise the value of it and Mysuru has to be smart as a community and industry and also have smart people to grow positively.”
H.V. Anantha Subbarao, President-Karnataka, All India Trade Union Congress said that a strife-free workplace was something the country has been demanding since many years now. The industrial growth and role of trade unions have a major impact on workers, he felt.
“The contributions of trade unions are recognised for better environment and proper productivity. Unions have actually given tallest leaders for the country which people fail to notice. Bad and opportunistic practices by managements are a threat to the country and trade unions always work towards the economic, social and intellectual progress of workers,” he added.

V.G.K. Nair, President, Centre of Trade Union spoke about the need to communicate and debate when the issues related to workers come to the forefront and only then we can have a strife-free workplace. “Payment of proper wages, sharing profit and payment of bonus are matters to be concentrated upon by the firms. If industrialists don’t make an equitable method by which issues can be solved, then nothing can change. Hence, the employers’ association should sit together and negotiate with unions and resolve issues,” he said.
CII Past Chairman Dr. N Muthukumar said “Most of us today are in organised sectors and there is a lot of exploitation in many places. But the fundamental problem is that we fail to focus on customer satisfaction and rather end with differences among ourselves in the name of unions, workers and employers.”
On the occasion, Assistant Labour Commissioner of Mysuru A.C. Thammanna released the Corporate Compliance Handbook which guides statutory compliance.
