Mysuru: On the occasion of International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Day, a road rally was organised by the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India, Karnataka State Chapter, Mysore Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (MSOMS), in association with JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research and Farooquia Dental College and Hospital here recently.
The rally, which commenced from Palace premises, passed via Farooquia Dental College and Hospital to JSS AHER to create awareness on road safety, importance of wearing helmets, seat belts and role of Maxillofacial Surgeons in facial injuries.
The rally was flagged off by Dr. Sujeeth K. Shetty, HoD, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, JSS AHER and Dr. S. Manu Prasad, HoD, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Farooquia Dental College and Hospital. More than 60 participants from JSS AHER, FDCH, St. Joseph’s Hospital, DSC Healthcare and Sankalp Cyclist Group, Mysuru, took part.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a specialisation after Dentistry which requires rigorous medical, surgical and dental training to deal with facial problems like Facial Injuries, Head and Neck Pathologies, Craniofacial Birth deformities like Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate, Head and Neck Oncology, Facial Cosmetic Surgical Procedures to improve facial appearance and other problems related to mouth, jaws and face.
Maxillofacial Surgeons are an integral part of emergency trauma unit of all superspeciality hospitals providing services for Road Traffic Accident patients and Maxillofacial Surgeons are specialised in reconstruction of face and associated structures.
Conference
The 9th Karnataka State Chapter Conference was organised by MSOMS in association with JSS AHER and FDCH at North Avenue in Mysuru during October 2022.
A three-day scientific programme was conducted where 450 delegates presented over 100 scientific research papers regarding complications and advances in Cranio maxillofacial Surgery, Facial Cosmetic Surgery and Head and Neck Oncology and all branches of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
The event was inaugurated by Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar. Addressing the gathering, he encouraged to collaborate with technological advancements and advances in surgical field.
MSOMS also felicitated the first Maxillofacial Surgeon of Mysuru Dr. B.K. Chandramohan with Life Time Achievement Award in both National and State Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Conference 2022-23.
New Committee
The Karnataka State Chapter’s new committee for 2023 was formed and two Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons from Mysuru Dr. M.A. Lakshith Biddappa and Dr. Pramod Krishnan were elected as Executive Committee Members while Dr. S. Manu Prasad continued his tenure as Treasurer of Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India, Karnataka State Chapter.
