International Workshop on “Gender Issues in Water Management in Developing Countries” from tomorrow

Mysore/Mysuru: JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSS AHER), Mysuru, in partnership with Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre) and the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE), Amstelveen, The Netherlands, is organising an International Workshop on “Gender Issues in Water Management in Developing Countries and Sustainable Development” on Feb. 22 and 23.

The international workshop will address gender-related issues in water resource management in developing countries. The objective is to highlight the role and the status of women in water use and management, and to identify feasible strategies to empower them in the overall water governance.

More than 40 experts and 200 participants from about 50 Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries working in the area of water science, related ecosystem and services and socio-economic sectors as well as members of planning and policy groups working towards gender equity are coming together for the workshop. The experts will discuss and develop recommendations for policy actions, which is expected to be implemented in NAM countries.

The keynote speakers include Dr. Catherine Anne Brown, Director and Senior Consultant, Southern Waters Ecological Research and Consulting, Cape Town, South Africa, Prof. David Jenkins, University of Plymouth, United Kingdom, Prof. Nnenesi Kgabi, Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management, North-West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa and Prof. V. Subramanian, former Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University.

JSS AHER, Mysuru is hosting the event which is being held in blended mode and the physical event will be at the Board Room of JSS Medical College, Mysuru. The inauguration is scheduled at 11.30 am tomorrow.

The dignitaries include Dr. Amitava Bandopadhyay, Director General, NAM S&T Centre, Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, and leadership from JSS AHER, Mysuru – Dr. B. Suresh, Pro- Chancellor, Dr. Surinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor and Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar.
