Mysuru: The Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement (GRAAM), in partnership with Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) and the Department of Studies (DoS) in Social Work, University of Mysore (UoM), has called upon the youths of Mysuru to step forward, showcase their talent and drive change at the International Youth Day (IYD) 2025 celebrations to be held at Vijnana Bhavan in Manasagangothri here on Aug. 19 from 9 am to 5 pm.
Observed globally on Aug. 12 as declared by the United Nations, International Youth Day recognises the power of young people in shaping inclusive, sustainable societies. This year’s theme, ‘Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,’ highlights how youth-led efforts can turn the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into real, community-driven solutions.
The event will feature interactive sessions, cultural performances and youth-led contests, providing a platform for creativity, leadership and civic engagement.
Competitions include
● Street Play Competition (SDG 5 & SDG 10) — Dramatic performances promoting gender equality and reducing inequalities.
● Citizen Journalist Video Competition (SDG 11) — Youth-led video stories on sustainable cities and communities.
● Governance & Democracy Quiz Competition (SDG 16) — Testing knowledge on governance in India.
● Poster Presentation Competition (SDG 6 & SDG 3) — Innovative solutions for clean water, sanitation and health.
Special highlights
● Fireside Chat with bureaucrats, entrepreneurs and youth leaders.
● Youth Band Performance
● Awards and youth commitments for SDG action.
The valedictory ceremony of the event will be held between 4 pm and 5 pm.
