Intl. athlete Reena George opens Taluk-level sports

Mysuru: The Taluk-level Athletic Championship- 2017 organised jointly by Department of PU Education and Mysore Central PU College, Saraswathipuram, was inaugurated by international athlete Reena George at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium here this morning.

Inaugurating the event, Reena called upon the students to actively take part in sporting activities as their achievement in the field of sports would help them in getting employment.

Stating that the athletes were not provided sufficient facilities in the State, Reena said that though there were good athletic tracks, the athletes had to get their own starting blocks and shoes.  She also said that there was a need for gymnasium in all sports grounds and hostels run by the Government.

Around 500 athletes (300 boys and 200 girls) from various PU colleges in the State took part in the event which included 5,000 mts run, 800 mts run, 100 mts sprint, 1,500 mts run, 200 mts sprint, 300 mts run, 4×100 mts relay, Shot Put, High Jump, Discus Throw and Javelin Throw.
