ISRO: Nation’s pride and a great ray of hope

September 6, 2023

Sir,

It is heartening to note that Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has begun one more mission successfully, this time to carry out studies pertaining to the Sun.

ISRO has been able to achieve success to the extent no other organisation working under the Government has ever been able to because of a few ethical norms that ISRO has adhered to throughout its journey.

Having had a brief association with the organisation (I was the Principal Investigator of a research project financed by ISRO at NIE, Mysuru), I feel it befitting to list the following as the principles ISRO adheres strictly to:

1. Discipline: The employees are totally duty-bound and follow the rules scrupulously.

2. Work Ethics: Work to the best of one’s abilities and with love.

3. Punctuality: Keep up to the schedules and achieve targets indelibly.

4.  Financial Control: Absolutely no extravagant spending.

I also understand that ISRO discourages hierarchical discrimination and motivates its employees by duly awarding extraordinary performances.

It is indeed a wonder how a Government undertaking in this nation, where corruption and non-governance form a very common feature of the public enterprise, has long been able to sustain the compulsions of the society and its leaders.

It is fortunate that ISRO has treaded a different path and the fruits are there to see. ISRO is not only the nation’s pride, it is a great ray of hope too!
