It’s a must-win situation for Mysore Warriors

Season 5 Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20

Mysuru franchise must win all four remaining matches to qualify for the knockouts

Mysuru: The ongoing Season 5 of Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 has not been a good tournament so far for the Mysore Warriors. The team is currently placed at the bottom of the table with   four points from six matches with a net run rate of -0.990. Being at the bottom of the table, Mysore Warriors will have to now win all their remaining matches in the league stage to qualify for  the knockouts.

Mysore Warriors will be playing four remaining matches, one against Hubli Tigers on July 2 and another against Gulbarga Mystics in Hubballi and two others against Bengaluru Blasters on July 5 and Shivamogga Yodhas on July 7 in Bengaluru before the knockouts that commence from July 9 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The team in the first leg held at Mysuru, managed to win only one match out of the total four matches and in the ongoing second leg at Hubballi, it has won one of the two matches with two matches remaining to play.

For Mysore Warriors, L.R. Chethan has been the player who has been in the runs. The right-handed batter has scored a total of 253 runs from six innings so far with a century under his name. Meanwhile, the other player, K.P. Karthikeya, who has already represented the U-19, has managed to score 177 runs from six innings at an average of 29.50 and none of the other batters have fared well.

The bowling department has also been not in great form with none of the bowlers featuring in top wicket-takers list. Captain Vyshak Vijaykumar, who was expected to deliver at the top, has only managed to scalp just 6 wickets at an average of 33.17 from six matches. The experience of  Ritesh Bhatkal has also not worked with the off-spinner also managing six wickets from six matches with an  average of 20.83 runs.

The Mysore Warriors managed to get Devdutt Padikkal and Prasidh Krishna at players’ auction earlier to the tournament. However, both the players were called for the national duty. While Prasidh is currently with Indian team in England tour, Devdutt is with the India ‘A’ team currently touring Sri Lanka.

While it is said that Devdutt would be joining the team for final leg of the tournament to be held in Bengaluru, it remains still unclear.
