Bengaluru: More than 200 jail inmates of Parappana Agrahara Central Prisons staged a fast, demanding the Government to cancel the transfer of DIG Roopa D. Moudgil.

The inmates in favour of Roopa fasted yesterday, skipping breakfast. They have alleged that Jail Superintendent R. Anitha was supporting V.K. Sasikala, AIADMK Chief, who is lodged in the jail. Added to this, they have also shouted slogans against Anitha as she was entering the jail.

The Government has relieved Roopa and DGP (Prisons) H.N. Sathyanarayan Rao from the Prisons Department. Even the Chief Superintendent Krishnakumar has been transferred for his alleged involvement in the irregularities in the jail. He has not been given any posting.

The  Government has posted N.S. Megharik as Additional Director General of Police (Prisons). He was ADGP, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) and a former Bengaluru Commissioner. No one has been posted in place of Roopa.

Anitha has been given additional charge following the transfer of Krishnakumar.

Meanwhile, retired IAS Officer Vinaykumar has begun the investigation from Monday itself. The Government has asked him to give a preliminary report within a week and directed him to give a full report within a month.
