Jakarta 2018 Asian Para Games: Mysuru girl Ramya wins silver in Javelin-Throw for India

Mysuru’s Ramya Shanmugham, 24, representing India in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Para Games, won Silver Medal in the Women’s Javelin-Throw F46 event with a throw of 31.51m on Monday at the GBK Main Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Ergasheva Roziyakhon of Uzbekistan won the Gold with a throw of 34.10m while Maryam of UAE secured Bronze with a throw of 31.03m.

Ramya incidentally had represented India in the Faza International Athletics Championships World Para Grand Prix 2018, held at Dubai on Mar.13, 2018 and won Gold in the women’s Discus-Throw event with a throw of 31.47m. Ramya also won a Bronze Medal in Shot-Put and Javelin-Throw in the same Championships.

A BE Mechanical Engineering Graduate, Ramya, born with a deformity in her left hand, is presently employed at a Sports Centre in city.

Ramya took up to active Para Athletics in June 2016, inspired and motivated by Mysuru’s well-known athlete Mohan Kumar who is her present coach. Earlier during her school days at Sathyamangalam, Ramya was encouraged to take up to athletics by her School Physical Director Kandaswamy. Ramya is the daughter of Shanmugham and Subbalakshmi who hail from Satyamangalam in Tamil Nadu.
