Jathra sans Covid protocol

March 10, 2021

Sir,

The Bisilu Maramma Temple in Gangothri Layout celebrated some Jathra today (Mar.8) and the people were seen crowding inside and on the streets leading to the Temple. There was absolutely no covid protocols followed here as most people were neither wearing masks nor social distancing.

I also saw some people defecating in the vacant sites nearby. To top it all, there was a loud music playing from the morning. Complaints to the Police proved less effective as the temple authorities and the people don’t seem to be afraid of the men in khaki.

I wonder how our Deputy Commissioner, who is always concerned and wary of the Covid situation, gave permission to this festival.
