Mysore/Mysuru: The 102nd birth anniversary of the last Maharaja of Mysore Jayachamaraja Wadiyar was celebrated at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha at Gokulam in city on Sunday last, with dignitaries and other citizens offering floral tributes to the portrait of the erstwhile Mysore Maharaja.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, MLA L. Nagendra said that Jayachamaraja Wadiyar should be credited for evolving Five-Year Plans for the country. Highlighting the role of the erstwhile Mysore Maharajas for Mysuru becoming the cultural capital of the State, he said that Jayachamaraja Wadiyar always worked for the welfare and well-being of the people and also promoted literature.
The erstwhile Maharaja gave shelter to numerous musicians and other artistes for promoting art, music and culture, Nagendra added.
Gokulam residents present memorandum seeking dropping of proposed Multifloor housing project: With MUDA planning to execute a multi-floor residential affordable housing project at Gokulam, the residents of the locality presented a memorandum to the MLA seeking to drop the plans in the better interests of the locality and the residents.
Pointing out that Gokulam is already a densely populated locality, they argued that the Multi-floor residential complex will badly hurt the locality’s infrastructure and as such, the project must be shifted elsewhere.
Vid. H.S. Prashanth presented a Sugama Sangeetha concert following the programme. He was accompanied by Vid. B.R. Srinivas on mridanga, Vid. Shamith Gowda on ghata and Vid. Sumanth Manjunath on violin.
