Mysore/Mysuru: Terming the nomination of senior BJP leader A.H. Vishwanath to the Karnataka Legislative Council as illegal, K.R.Nagar JD(S) MLA S.R.Mahesh has urged the Governor not to administer oath to Vishwanath.
Speaking to presspersons at his office near Ramavilas road here this morning, Mahesh, who is also a former Minister, said that the Supreme Court in a ruling in connection with a disqualification petition (WP-992/2019), has clearly said that a disqualified Legislator must again get elected from the people to re-enter the House and not be nominated at any point of time during the entire tenure of the Government in power. But the ruling BJP Government, as a reward to Vishwanath for pulling down the coalition Government, has nominated him to the Legislative Council in violation of the SC ruling, he maintained.
Wondering whether the Governor, who has signed the letter nominating Vishwanath as an MLC is unaware of the SC ruling, Mahesh urged the Governor not to administer oath of office to Vishwanath.
Pointing out that Vishwanath, who is himself an Advocate, must be knowing about the legal issues involving his nomination, as he is a disqualified legislator and has failed to get the people’s mandate having lost the by-polls, the MLA questioned him how he could take the oath in violation of the SC ruling, which he is supposed to honour as an advocate.
Lashing out at the State Government for its failure to release MLA grants, Mahesh claimed that no MLA of the State, irrespective of the party affiliations, has received any development funds so far.
Asserting that he has been pleading with the Government for releasing Rs.1.16 crore grant that is due to him as an MLA, Mahesh wondered whether the Government has gone totally bankrupt.
MyMUL appointment scam
Referring to MyMUL appointment scam which he has alleged, Mahesh said that the High Court stay has been vacated only in respect of two cases and MyMUL taking advantage of this, has called for interviews starting from July 27, which is once again illegal.
Claiming that many aspiring candidates have paid huge sums of money to MyMUL Directors and politicians from the ruling party for jobs, he said that he would continue to take up the cause of deserving candidates and take the appointment scam to its logical end.
JD(S) District President Narasimhaswamy, City President K.T. Cheluvegowda, former Corporator K.V. Mallesh and others were present at the press meet.
