JEE, NEET to take place as scheduled: Centre

New Delhi: Even as all non-BJP ruled States and several  activist groups have been urging the Union Government to postpone Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) in view of COVID-19 crisis, the Centre asserted that the exam will take place as scheduled in September.

The JEE (Main) for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) across the country will take place online from Sept. 1 to 6, while NEET for admission to Medical and Dental Undergraduate courses, will be held offline on Sept. 13, with all COVID-19 precautionary measures in place.

Both All-India exams will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) coming under the Union Ministry of Education.

The NTA, while clarifying that there will be no postponement of the exams, said that the exam centres for JEE (Main) will be enhanced from 570 to 660 while there will be 546 centres for NEET.

While over 9.5 lakh students across the country have qualified for JEE (Main), nearly 16 lakh students have registered for NEET.
